Ambassador to the USA, and host, Dr. Sam Hancock Representative of Nepal Program Summary: The EmeraldPlanet program for May 9th

"His Excellency
Shankar P. Sharma,
Ambassador to the
United States,
Republic of Nepal. His discussions and new PowerPoint presentation will
expand on the earlier presentation by
"Larry J. Silverman, Esq., Environmental Attorney,
Washington, D.C. (USA) Bar".
Further valuable insights to our world-wide viewers on how the ancient
nation of
Nepal, which
sits at "The Roof of the
World" is the proverbial "canary in the
coal mine" on severe
climate change.
The best kept secret in international relations
is that of Nepal--a country of 28 million people embedded between India
and China in the
Himalayan mountains.
It is one of the most strategic and geo-politically important countries
on earth. One of five people on planet earth depends on the rivers
that originate in Nepal and its Himalayan
neighbors of Bhutan and Tibet for their primary water. Ambassador Sharma will share how
Nepal contributes very small amounts of
greenhouse gases to the global atmosphere while the nation is
pursuing policies and practices that offer some of the best and most
efficient solutions to the
climate change
problems created by more affluent countries.
Rck Forberg as Vice President for Strategy at STM Inc.
is developing
a GSM (cellular) network in rural villages of Nepal
using its SuperPico® GSM “green base station” solutions.
SuperPico is “green”
principally because it has very
low power consumption, small and light
weight, and is
relatively inexpensive. The system provides good coverage of
typical-sized rural villages in Nepal in the range of 2,000 to 20,000
people. SuperPico can be
easily and quickly
installed by local
people after a short training course. These can be located on top
of shopkeeper’s roof, local school, health clinic, government building,
private homes, or other small buildings in villages retaining a
“low-visibility” profile while protected. SuperPico consumes only 50 to
100 Watts, versus more common grid-base stations
that consume 500 to 2,000 Watts of power.
As you may know EmeraldPlanet is
a worldwide non-profit organization dedicated to identifying at least
1,000 'best practices' for sustainable environmental and economic
development. Our efforts are to link those having such "best practices"
with those needing the technologies, processes, services, and products
to be outstanding ecological stewards of their resources.
