Program Summary:

The EmeraldPlanet program for May 16th will feature Ariane Kirtley who is the Founder and President of Amman Imman/Water is Life.  Ariane is working in the Azawak Region of Niger, West Africa.  This is one of the most isolated regions on the African continent and possibly planet Earth.  “Water is Life” could not be truer than in the Azawak of West Africa where half a million people have no water for ten months of the year along with a persistent drought over a seven [7] year period. Only half of the children reach their fifth birthday as many simply die of thirst.

A companion organization Wells of Love is the service learning program of Amman Imman: Water is Life.  Wells of Love is uniting students and young people of all ages, from preschoolers to university students as caring philanthropists or “Heroes  of Compassion,” capable of turning their empathy into direct action through collaborative and individually initiated efforts.  This organization is Increasing awareness among American, French,  and other international students about some of the most crucial humanitarian and environmental issues of our time, including how the global water crisis and climate change directly affect the lives of people living in the Azawak and Niger of West Africa.

Teachers and professors in concert with the Wells of Love leadership are shaping tomorrow’s leaders as global activists and problem solvers, who bring about change and find positive solutions to some of our world’s most challenging problems.  The students in America, France, and other nations are helping to raise funds towards building numerous “Wells of Love” thereby having long-lasting and significant impact on the lives of the populations in the Azawak and Niger.
