Program Summary:

The EmeraldPlanet program for May 23rd will feature two distinct "best practices" for a greener world.  The first is the Monarch Butterflies Sister Schools Program in the United States and Mexico.  The second is Gifts In Kind, International which last year provided over US$400 million (US$400,000.000.00) in new goods donated by companies and corporations for use by registered non-profits in North America and abroad.

The Monarch Sister Schools Program (MSSP) is an initiative to involve school children across North America in the protection and restoration of the habitat of the Monarch butterfly, including its threatened winter forest habitat in the highlands of central Mexico and its disappearing milkweed habitat along its migratory "flyway" from Mexico to Canada.

The Monarch’s intrinsic beauty, intriguing life cycle, and inspiring migration make the Monarch a truly awesome wonder of Nature.  MSSP captures this compelling story and helps teachers to tap the natural curiosity of children and inspire their interest in science and nature.  After years of pressure to "teach to the test", educators across the country are looking for ways to strike a better balance and inject more inspiration into the learning process.

As described in the official web site www.monarchsisterschools.org the Program offers a series of professional development options for teachers over the course of the first school year, with activities culminating in the spring when we help you plant a Monarch Garden. We work with you to keep costs manageable and provide tools for related "fun-raisers" (described in the Program Resource Guide provided to member schools).

We would like to thank Mr. Jim Southworth, Executive Producer and his outstanding Production Team of Channel 10 TV (Inside Scoop) TheEmeraldPlanet for their constant help, support, and assistance in making the program available in the Washington, D.C. Region, across America, and around the globe.

As you may know EmeraldPlanet is a worldwide non-profit organization dedicated to identifying at least 1,000 'best practices' for sustainable environmental and economic development.  Our efforts are to link those having such "best practices" with those needing the technologies, processes, services, and products to be outstanding ecological stewards of their resources.

Please support The Emerald Planet Television and The Emerald Trek through your generous donations of US$25, US$50, or US$100. Click the donations button to make your contributions now!

THANK YOU AS TOGETHER WE CREATE THE EMERALDPLANET!
