Program Summary:

The EmeraldPlanet program for January 31st is to share a number of "best practices" being implemented to identity, recruit, in-take, qualify, train, and place in REAL 'green' jobs at-risk populations.  These efforts are to answer a direct call to reduce crime in the inner city, provide gainful employment, increase the local government tax base, provide incentives for employers, and reduce the ill affects of severe climate change.  These experts who are taking the lead in such efforts will speak about their collaboration in Washington, D.C. USA as a model for such programs around the globe. 
 

It is estimated by the United States Department of Labor over 15 million citizens are unemployed and another 12 million are considered underemployed.  At the same time there is a reported 16% unemployment rateamong Whites and Asians, 28% unemployment among Hispanics, and over 32% such unemployment among Blacks in Washington, D.C.  The figure of underemployment in Ward 8 alone is estimated at 38 percent.  Yet in this same location there are soon to be some 38,000 job openings at all skill levels and pay grades through the Department of Homeland Security's "St. Elizabeth" Campus development.  These real numbers have forced the current Obama Administration to focus on 'green' jobs in an emerging 'green' economy that includes all citizens here and our world neighbors.

 

With this focus on severe climate change and 'green' jobs creation here and abroad our three guests will discuss their roles on The EmeraldPlanet television program for this Sunday, January 31st, 2010.  As you may know EmeraldPlanet is a world-wide non-profit organization dedicated to identifying at least 1,000 'best practices' for sustainable environmental and economic development.  Our efforts are to link those having such "best practices" with those needing the technologies, processes, services, and products to be outstanding ecological stewards of their resources.

In this first year of the Obama Administration and the world wide recession there is the constant drum beat of 'green' jobs while addressing the consequences of violent climate change.  Even with over one [1] trillion US$ ($1,000,000,000,000.00) invested by the American government in the United States alone to support the economy and reduce the lost of jobs over 15,000,000 Americans and countless hundreds of millions overseas are jobless or working well below their human potential there is a continued loss of employment opportunities while violent weather events continue to increase.

 

This is an on-going series highlighting small-to-medium size organizations with world-wide implications focusing upon 'green' jobs.  This program will focus specifically to explain if there is climate change occurring, how does this relate to 'green' jobs, is there really such a type of economy opportunity, where are these opportunities, and what changes do they predict will occur in American and overseas over the next 12, 36, 60, and more months.  They will explain their work singly and collectively in the District, how they believe tier organizations contribute to creating the new 'green' economy, and what can Americans and global citizens expect over the next five years for economic opportunities in light of severe climate change.  Because of the extensive nature of their work in reaching at-risk populations focus will be upon education and environmental development issues.
